Mittens (#76)

Don't you just want a cup of hot chocolate now? That's the sort of cozy feeling I hope this year's Christmas card will elicit. OK, admittedly, I'll only email it to people but hey, it's better than nothing! So, consider this my card to you, to all of you who have contributed to this community over the year. Thank you, thank you! :)

It's funny, really — although I rarely do non lined art, for some reason, come December, I seem to prefer creating more simplistic offerings as with last year's when I did Mistletoe and A Partridge in a Pear Tree. Go figure. Anyway, this was a fun piece to do. ...BTW, perhaps you'd be interested in seeing the initial rudimentary sketch too from which I then drew out the vector shapes shapes and so on?

I have the day off work today so tons of time to peruse your own offerings today. I'm so looking forward to it, continually checking back in as the day progresses. And guess what else? I've even made some to-die-for homemade lemon shortbread to nibble on. Oh! And some mince meat pies too (these aren't homemade though)! Mmmm... Now all I need is that hot chocolate. :)

  2. Oh I love the simplicity of this one, and the shades of blue...How darling those mittens just hanging there waiting for just the right person to come along and need them.

Yes, you hot chocolate and lemon shortbread would be great right now!! I've been baking and freezing for a week now, and have my fruitcakes, pumpkin bread, banana bread and English Toffee made...Ahead of the game this year as I make goodie baskets for all my adult kids.
    Merry Christmas Mmm...

  6. Beautiful illustration. I like the punch of color the mittens give the softly muted landscape and the layers of blue that make up the background.

  8. So beautiful and calming. Love how you have used the gradual change in colour to show the depth. I don't think this would have worked with outlines. Very poignant with the mittens hanging there. I think this is your best so far.

It definately would make a lovely card.
